I am a seventy nine year old who has always tried to keep fit and active, but for three or four years prior to the operation I had experienced regular disabling knee pain and deteriorating balance, curtailing my movement and resulting eventually in frequent stumbles and embarrassingly / disappointingly two or three actual falls. One year ago Mr Stephen Guy was the surgeon who, in my judgement, with total success, replaced my left knee joint. This enabled me to quickly regain, and maintain, after about two months or so of regular (not easy) exercising, virtually pain and discomfort-free use of the limb and a return to being able to walk, climb stairs, drive, and, with some slight adaptation, do most things comfortably , confidently and efficiently. In pre-op and post op consultations I found Mr Guy to be an approachable, clear, concise, insightful and caring communicator. He was keen to fully yet efficiently evaluate my medical condition, needs and expectations. He advised me of options and illustrated these as necessary, making me confident that each consultation was a fully two way process and feel that I had been considered as me, an individual at all times. In summary I would not change anything, having total confidence in Mr Guy and his team along with the belief that this high level of skill, care and consideration would be extended to any and all their patients.

I found Stephen Guy friendly and helpful. He answered all my questions and helped me come to a good decision about knee surgery. The surgery was neat and effective and, with the help of physiotherapy which Mr Guy authorised, I now have a pain free joint and am able to walk without pain again.

I am 85 and I had had a lot of pain in my left knee and had developed a Bakers Cyst. I had been referred for physio, had an injection and had an ultra scan. Over a period of almost two years walking was extremely painful and difficult. In July 2018 I was finally referred for surgery. I had a choice of two hospitals. I had been to Yorkshire clinic previously and it was my first choice. Mr Stephen Guy was my consultant and I found him to be most courteous. He explained the procedure for a full knee replacement. I was admitted within two weeks and I have this week (July 2019) returned for my check-up. The knee was x-rayed again and Mr Guy examined and discussed my progress. I informed him that he had given me my life back and I am extremely grateful to him for his care and expertise and for the physio aftercare at Yorkshire Clinic The Tina Turner song says it all - “Simply The Best”.

From the first minute I met Mr guy I felt at ease. Every part of the procedure was explained fully and any questions that I asked were answered instantly and very clearly. I have had two Knee replacement carried out by Mr Guy and they both have been successful. All that I can say is "What a nice guy".

Profile

I was appointed as a substantive consultant in 2011 at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a consultant knee surgeon.

I trained both in the North-East and in Yorkshire for my Higher Surgical Training and finished off with two competitive knee surgery fellowships.

I have a great team of people now around me who are passionate about improving patient care - from our sports knee injury clinics to academic research taking place in our hospital and stimulating research in other hospitals. I have many research interests and have published randomised controlled trials.

I am open and honest in my consultation style and driven about improving patient care and as such have joined this website.

I would be grateful if you would take some time in leaving me feedback.

Kind regards,
